Words
from p. 853 of the Sacred Guru Granth Sahib Ji, by Guru
Amar Das Ji, Music by Nina Virdee
Nina: “Since
childhood I have always held a special place in my heart
for Gurbani
Keertan.
The shabads
(songs)
from this tradition tell of man’s suffering on earth,
the preciousness of life, stories from the times of the
Gurus and the eternal majesty of the Almighty. When my
father-in-law, Bhai Gurmit Singh Ji, an inspirational
character for me, passed away in 2005, I refocused all my
effort and emotion into Keertan.
I realized that this music was at the core of my heart and
an integral part of who I am.
“This
particular shabad
is
fundamental to Sikh belief. It encapsulates our frailty as
human beings, and our need for the Lord to restore and keep
peace within humanity.”
