Internationally
renowned virtuoso Cheng Yu performs a programme of
devotional music on the two most celebrated Chinese
classical instruments – the pipa
(four-stringed
lute) and guqin
(seven-stringed
zither). The pipa
is famed
for its expressive power while the guqin
was
played by philosophers, intellectuals and monks, including
Confucius and the poet Li Bai.
