Mendelssohn Quartet in A minor Op. 13
This talented young ensemble performs two spiritually inspired string quartets. Haydn was a deeply religious man, and the Eb major quartet is one of his last quartets. Mendelssohn’s A minor quartet begins and ends with a hymn-like melody of transcendent beauty.

About the artists
Established
whilst studying at the Cambridge University in 2003, the
Solstice String Quartet has quickly gained a reputation as
one of the most talented young quartets in the country.
Selected by both the Tillett Trust and Park Lane Group in
2008 the quartet will make their debuts at the Wigmore Hall
and Purcell Room in 2009. They have recently been awarded a
full scholarship for the Academic Year 2008-9 at the
Instituto Internacional de Música de Cámara de Madrid where
they will study intensively every month with Prof. Günter
Pichler of the Alban Berg Quartet.
The quartet has performed throughout the UK and
internationally, performing at major music festivals such
as Dartington, Vale of Glamorgan Festival, Canterbury
'Sounds New' Festival and Aberystwyth, and has performed
live on BBC Radio 3. Other notable performances include
Barber's Dover Beach with tenor Steven Varcoe, and
Mendelssohn's Octet with the Szymanowski Quartet and with
the Sacconi Quartet; the quartet also enjoys ongoing
collaboration with distinguished clarinettist David
Campbell, with whom they have performed quintets by Brahms,
Mozart and Bliss, and with pianist Tom Poster with whom
they recently performed the Schumann piano quintet. In the
2008-9 season plans include performances across the country
and debuts at the Stratford upon Avon Music Festival, and
The Kings Lynn Festival, alongside further performances
with Tom Poster, and a Schubert Quintet with cellist Guy
Johnston.
